Let’s face it when you find out your pregnant you get this image in your head
of how your pregnancy is going to look, and 99% of the time we all picture
this so called perfect pregnancy where you have loads of energy, your glowing
and basically look like a goddess for the full 9 months.
Then reality comes along and pops that little day dream bubble and you realize pregnancy is HARD and most of the time looks NOTHING like what we see on social media.
So rather than sharing all the BS “picture perfect” expectations about pregnancy I thought it was time for some real talk. Below are just 8 of the things you think will go one way but have a habit of going the absolute opposite direction during pregnancy.
Maternity Fashion:
Expectation: " I'm going to look so cute in all the stylish maternity clothes that will show off my bump"
Reality: Stylish maternity clothes can be a nightmare to find and when you do they cost an arm and a leg so you just end up living in leggings and oversized t-shirts and jumpers.
The pregnancy "glow":
Expectation: " My skin is going to look so flawless and glowy for 9 months"
Reality: That my friends is called sweat especially if you are lucky enough to be pregnant during the summer.
Food Cravings:
Expectation: " After the first trimester sickness ill be able to eat what I want as I'm eating for two"
Reality:You will be able to eat VERY little as baby will 100% hate anything you used to love pre pregnancy and will make it well know that they do not like it and they will do it quickly either by just you smelling it and wanting to be sick, or sometimes they may actually let you eat said food but it wont last very long until your running to the bathroom to be sick.
The other side to food cravings is the baby will want the most disgusting things to eat and unless they get it they will just not let you eat anything normal.
The Bump:
Expectation:“ I’m going to have such a cute little bump and people won’t even know I’m pregnant from the back”
Reality: As such as all mamma’s love their bumps and even miss them when baby is born it definitely can get in the way the bigger it gets. Obviously as baby gets bigger so does the bump and it can become hard to pick outfits that flatter your bump and not just look too small.
That big bump makes it harder to pick things up from the floor as (if something hits the floor it’s as good as dead to me)
Moving in bed or on the couch becomes harder with the bump, well let’s face it moving in general gets harder with a big bump.
Being Pregnant In Public:
Expectation: “People will congratulate me, ask nice questions and move on”
Reality:Yes people will do some of the above but they will also ask VERY personal questions about things like your birth plan, are you breast feeding or bottle feeding, they will tell you all the things you “should” and “shouldn’t” do. And my personal favourite the will randomly rub your belly like your a god damn genie expecting to get 3 wishes (personal space people BACK OFF)
Expectation: “I’ll be fine if I just use all these expensive creams on my belly I won’t get any”
Reality: No amount of creams cheap or expensive are stopping you getting them and they will sneak up on you. One day your belly is a blank canvas the BANG you wake up and your covered. Now there is nothing wrong with them at all they are natural and you should be proud of them girl they show you brought a human into this world and that is badass!
Expectation:“ I’ll use these 9 months to get as much sleep as possible before baby arrives”
Reality: You’ll be up and down countless times during the night to pee as apparently this is the perfect time for baby to use your bladder as a football. Restless legs become a thing while pregnant so your legs will twitch or jump every time you get comfortable and your ready to drift off. Oh and let’s not forget pregnancy insomnia as well to add in. The chances are you’ll actually get MORE sleep once the baby is here than when your pregnant with them.
Expectation: “ You’re hormones are only really bad at the start of pregnancy they’ll balance out”
Reality: This one really makes me laugh as so many people honestly believe they’re hormones will go back to normal at some point during pregnancy and sometimes that’s true but most of the time it’s a lie. They get worse as you go along, one minute your happy laughing away acting like your pre pregnant self and the next thing an advert can come on the tv for the most random thing and bang your crying like a baby with no real explanation as to why. On the other hand you could be sitting on the couch at night snuggling up with your partner and they literally just breathe wrong way and your off into a crazy meltdown losing your shit over it and this then becomes the perfect opportunity to bring up absolutely everything they have ever done to annoy you. And god forbid they try to calm you down that is guaranteed to make you worse or they just sit and take it this also has the potential to make you worse. This is what we call a lose lose situation.
Putting all of that aside pregnancy is/can be a very amazing thing for any woman to go through like come on we are bringing a new life into this world that is badass as hell, but that does not mean for one second that it is an easy thing for us to go through. Those 9 months can be some of the most challenging in a woman’s life so if you see her struggling a little give her a break or even offer her a hand, trust me that will go along way and will be very much appreciated.
